EnlightenMed was born from lived experience. Dr. Shah Z. Khan and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Khan, saw firsthand what happens when people in rural communities can’t access the care they need. From long drives to long wait times, the system wasn’t working—for patients or for clinicians. So they decided to build something better.

After working in an HIV/AIDS clinic in Ghana and presenting clinical research across the U.S., Dr. Khan returned to serve patients in rural California. There, the couple experienced the same broken healthcare systems as their patients. This was the turning point: they realized a new model was not just possible—but necessary.
